Boxer Rescue

A Boxer rescue is a non-profit organization that takes care for homeless purebred Boxers. Breed fanciers take animals unwanted by their owners and try to find new homes for them. Prior to going to the new family, every dog is rehabilitated in a foster family. It’s especially important for those dogs that have been abused and mistreated in their previous homes. If a Boxer dog was not given socialization and proper training, it gets basic obedience training in a foster family.

There are many reasons that make people surrender their Boxers to the rescue. Most dogs in a Boxer rescue are surrendered because their owners cannot find enough time, money, or desire to take care of the pet. Many Boxers were bought because of fashion or as a matter of prestige. Since this breed is very popular in the USA and Europe, many people buy a pet of this breed without knowing much on its keeping requirements. What makes the situation worse is that unknowledgeable people buy pets from unreliable sources and stimulate backyard breeders to produce mediocre quality puppies for sale. Backyard breeders don’t strive to improve the breed; all they need is getting the maximum profit by selling Boxer puppies to anyone who wants to buy them. It results in producing unhealthy and unstable Boxers. It spoils the image of the breed in general and the life of the dogs and their owners in particular.

It’s almost impossible to get to know something about the life of the dog in the former family. New owners have to be very careful with the dog. Although too aggressive Boxers with biting records are not kept in a Boxer rescue, adopting Boxers is not recommended for families with small children. Only a few high quality purebred and well-trained dogs are surrendered because of financial or personal problems of their owners. Puppies are almost never available for adoption.

To adopt a Boxer dog from a rescue, you have to prove that you can make the right owner for a large and strong dog. Every perspective adopter has an interview or fills in a questionnaire and has a home visit. Boxer rescue workers try to find the best possible match for every homeless dog.
