Boxers Puppies - Origins

Boxers have a very interesting background. Bulldogs are the Boxers' ancestors. The blood of various Terriers used in development of the breed added to the speed, agility and elegance. Though the name "Boxer" is purely British, Germany is claimed to be the country of the breed's origin. Boxers use their front legs when fighting, which reminds of a manner a man would fight.

There are several theories as far as the breed's origin goes. One of the theories claims that the Boxer breed was developed from fighting dogs of Tibet. It is more likely, however, that the breed originated in Germany in the 1800s. These working dogs were the first to be trained as police dogs in Germany. The strength and courage of Boxers made them useful during the First World War and the Second World War. Boxers used to run messages on the battlefields.

The AKC first registered the breed in 1904. However, Boxers became really popular as family pets only in the 1940s. The early Boxers could have been rather fierce and somewhat ferocious, the Boxer breed of today is a popular family companion. These dogs are affectionate and devoted to those they love and protect. Boxers gave a good account of themselves since the early stages of the breed development.
