Miniature Boxer

Owners of the miniature boxer should be knowledgeable on training since many misbehaved dogs end up in rescues. The standard of this breed changed several times since its origin. The historical background of these dogs begins in feudal Germany. The ancestors of the breed were small hunting dogs with a strong grip and a very courageous and alert nature. They could hold on boar or bear pending the hunter’s arrival. Also, these dogs were used to control bulls. In the 1880’s these utility dogs were bred to elegant English hunting dogs, starting the era of the breed we know today. In the USA, these dogs became popular around the late 1930s. The dogs of this breed are rather compact and powerful. They have a shiny, close-fitting coat, which comes in fawn, brindle, white and various shades of red, with white markings. The ears may be cropped or not. The tail of the dog is usually docked. These dogs are constantly on the move, bonding very closely with the family. Loyal and affectionate, these dogs are known for the way they get along so well with children. They are fairly active indoors and do best with at least an average-sized yard. The dogs of this breed will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. Owners of the miniature boxer should be knowledgeable on training since many misbehaved dogs end up in rescues.
